Remove it, Lock it, or Lose it!
Is your car safe and secure?
Anyone intent on stealing your car's contents will always choose the softest target. It’s one of the most common crimes committed yet the most simple to prevent. Here are some tips on how to keep your car and its contents safe. Remember, your insurance may not cover you if you don’t take the necessary precautions.
❗Always check every door, not just the driver's side, to make sure they are locked when you leave
❗Lock all valuables out of sight. Don’t leave bags under seats or in the back; make sure you put them in the locked trunk.
❗Always check to see if you’ve left your cell phone plugged in on the console or in a window holder
❗Just because it isn’t valuable to you, it may well be to someone else. Even a small change could prompt someone to smash your car window
❗Don’t leave house keys in the vehicle, and don’t leave personal papers with your address on
❗Check your gas cap. People have been known to siphon gas from insecure caps
❗Park your car in a place that is well let, in plain sight, and, if possible, in the site of cameras
❗Install a tracking device and clearly state that one is installed in the vehicle
❗Don’t leave your car idling at any time. Opportunistic thefts of running cars happen from driveways and outside stores
❗If anyone ever approaches you at an intersection and tries to get into your vehicle, lock your doors and drive to the nearest safe place
We encourage our neighbors to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity or criminal activity while it is occurring to the Police Department by dialing 911. Remember, “Remove it, lock it, or lose it”!
