I had the pleasure of conversing with Eric McNulty from the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative (NPLI) at Havard, where I serve as Global Ambassador, for their "Leader Readycast" podcast about two of my favorite topics: community engagement and preparedness. We discussed my community engagement and preparedness pillars, including "Community as the leader, we are facilitators" and "Think and communicate like a community builder, accounting for the community's interests, needs, desires, and problems they want to solve."

We also touched on how Public Information Officers (and preparedness coordinators) have an unmanageable volume of demands on their plates, and we must adequately fund and staff their shops. That preparedness message needs to be year-round, incremental, seasonally relevant, and tactical to move the preparedness needle qualitatively.
