🌡️ How to stay cool during dangerous heat 🌡️
Heat is one of the leading weather-related killers in the United States, resulting in over 1,200 deaths each year. Heat can be very taxing on the body. The best way to stay cool is to be inside with the AC running and shades drawn, limiting your stove and oven use.
If you must be outside, limit strenuous activities, find shade, drink plenty of water, and take frequent breaks
Please also note that young children and infants, older adults, particularly those with pre-existing conditions, people with chronic medical conditions, and pregnant women must take extra precautions.
If you need help installing a window AC unit or require a ride to a cooling center, please click the following link to let your nearby neighbors on Nextdoor know → https://nextdoor.com/news_feed/?open_composer=true&hashtag=ncneighborshelpingneighbors
Remember: 💧 Drink plenty of water, take breaks, keep the shades drawn, and limit your stove and oven use. 🚗 Never leave kids or pets unattended in your vehicles. LOOK before you LOCK. 🐶 Bring pets inside and ensure they have access to plenty of fresh water.
If you work outside, see these tips -> https://www.osha.gov/heat-exposure.
Please share your tips in the comments and 'Repost' this message to ensure everyone in our community stays informed and knows they can ask for and offer help.
Stay cool, neighbors!
