🌡️ How to stay cool during dangerous heat 🌡️

Heat is one of the leading weather-related killers in the United States, resulting in over 1,200 deaths each year. Heat can be very taxing on the body. The best way to stay cool is to be inside with the AC running and shades drawn, limiting your stove and oven use.

If you must be outside, limit strenuous activities, find shade, drink plenty of water, and take frequent breaks.

❄️ If you have AC and are open to hosting neighbors or providing a ride to a cooling shelter, post your offer on the Nextdoor Help Map -> https://nextdoor.com/discover?is=helpmap&map_type=help_map. Together, we can make a difference in our community's safety. ❄️

Please also note that young children and infants, older adults, particularly those with pre-existing conditions, people with chronic medical conditions, and pregnant women must take extra precautions.

If the AC is not working in your home, seek a local cooling center, and check to see if anyone nearby has offered to take neighbors in on the Help Map -> https://nextdoor.com/discover?is=helpmap&map_type=help_map

Additional tips:

⚠️ Job Sites - Stay hydrated and, when possible, stay indoors and take breaks. More info at https://www.osha.gov/heat-exposure

⚠️ Vehicles - Never leave kids or pets unattended in your vehicles. LOOK before you LOCK

⚠️ Pets - Bring pets inside and ensure they have plenty of water.
