Poll: Could you explain the difference between a weather Watch and a Warning to a neighbor?
Poll question: Could you explain the difference between a weather Watch and a Warning to a neighbor?
Answer options: → Yes, I could explain it → Mostly, but I sometimes mix them up → No, I mix them up → Not sure
Poll description: Watch and Warning sound alike, and they ask very different things of you. We’re asking so neighbors in [City/Town] can see where we all stand. When this poll closes, we’ll repost it with the answer and a short checklist.
Seed comments: post each as a separate comment immediately after publishing: Comment 1: Has your household talked about where you’d shelter if a Warning was issued? Comment 2: [Link to your local NWS office page] Here’s where to find current Watches and Warnings for [County]. Comment 3: What helps you remember the difference? POLL REPOST
In the poll below, we asked, Could you explain the difference between a weather Watch and a Warning to a neighbor?
[Insert your results here, for example: “X percent of you said you sometimes mix them up.”]
A Watch means all the ingredients for a weather event are in place. Keep an eye on the forecast and be ready. A Warning means the event is happening or about to. Act now, and for a tornado, that means shelter.
Run through your plan, [City/Town]: → Know where you’d go to take shelter → Have more than one way to get alerts, including one that runs on batteries, like a NOAA Weather Radio → If you come across a flooded road, turn around, don’t drown
Which of these have you already done?
