🌪️ If you need help getting to a safe place during a tornado, ask. Neighbors want to help — they just need to know you need it.
Start with people you already know — a neighbor, nearby friend, or family member. If you don't know your neighbors yet, knock on their door, introduce yourself, and ask. It might feel uncomfortable, but think about it from their side: if someone asked you for help, you'd want to say yes. That's what neighbors do.
You can also post directly on Nextdoor and ask neighbors near you for a ride to shelter. Copy and paste this link into your browser and describe your situation: https://nextdoor.com/news_feed/?open_composer=true&hashtag=neighborhelp
When you post, be direct. Something like: "Tornadoes touch down where we live, and I don't have a way to get to a safe place. Would you be willing to bring me with you or go together?"
If approaching strangers feels like too much, two other options:
→ Contact a local faith-based leader and ask if they can connect you with someone who can help → Call your local emergency management agency and ask them to point you toward resources
